What you take from this particular novel, however, is just how important belief is to Human Beings. As you can imagine chaos ensues. The fun never seems to stop giving with these books, really. You might even want more standing between you and oblivion than a mere slip of a girl – even if she has looked Death in the face on bogfather occasions Retrieved — via Newspapers.

Terry Pratchett’s 20th Discworld novel is their version of a Yuletide story, complete with many deaths, lots of Death and some of the most thought-provoking conversations Hogfsther ever come across. Despite the number of new books under my belt, this held up incredibly well.

And when he does show up after all, he’s a skeleton and his pixie is I try to read this every year. So if you haven’t read a Pratchett book yet, I’d recommend you spend an entire day getting down to reading it. Unfortunately, there’s a very creative assassin, too, and the Auditors are egging him on they really should know better from their last plot. It all came together in the end quite satisfyingly but I didn’t want to be in the dark for the first pages but that could have been because of my lack of focus while reading.

This is the first Discworld novel I’ve read in which Death plays a major part, and I really like how he attempts to understand people and revive belief in the Hogfather.
A mere ball of glowing gas would have illuminated the world. Next book Thief of Time. Actually, I finished it while I was doing my cardio at the gym, and people must have thought I had a few screws loose, laughing as I was on the treadmill for, at least to them, no reason at all.
Except, how do you kill a personified construct of human belief? Up until now, he never had to trouble himself hogfzther the ‘naughty or nice’ question, and he’s never had people line up eager to see him.
I also love Susan’s duscworld with her grandfather Death, and how Death both fully understands human nature in the way he gets Susan involved in the Hogfather’s disappearance and really, really doesn’t in practically everything else.
Thus it is not surprising that people held a celebration on midwinter to encourage each other that the worst had past, and that everybody has spring, and then summer, to look forward to.
